Yep, we’re the best kind of weirdos. Think about it, if we weren’t weird, why would we want to write? There is a weird or unique point of view we feel compelled to convey, or a noticeable human trait we want to highlight. We see the world through weird eyes, weird experiences, weird perspectives.

Without weirdos, though, we’d have nothing. Conformity.

This is why I do what I do. I’m a weirdo, of course. The Best Kind of Weirdo. You probably are too.

I like spending time with weirdos.

We’re not boring. We’re not working for your approval. We may want your attention, but we’re content to be weird in our own worlds and in our own ways.

Weirdos are so happy to meet one another, that there’s an obvious relief, bec they have found their people.

We are happy to be a part of a group of other weirdos, where we’re appreciated, understood, and empowered. This is why I started the Write Without the Fight FB Group – for weirdos like us. Come on over and see what’s going on in the group. (We’re all there, sharing links, gifing, laughing.)

The other weird thing – and tell me where I’m wrong – writers take that feeling of being weird in their families, friend groups and workplaces and use it scold themselves. Conformity is important. It is what kept us alive as a species for millenia. People who stepped out of line, literally, could be noticed and KILLED. By a tiger, by another person. It is scary – and seriously discouraged by society – to step out of line.

Nonetheless, we step out of line. And instead of feeling proud of our courage for stepping up, stepping forward, we feel slightly apologetic. Perhaps unworthy. Like we’re not good enough to take that risk. We scold ourselves.

This conforming thought “I should not step out of line” is in direct conflict with another thought weirdos share: someone has to say something. (Whatever your “something” is.)

Writers are the best weirdos. And you are important to me. We just finished the free 5-day Write Without the Fight challenge, and I got to share my days with about 300 of you. Such happy and productive days.
